Clever and extremely useful improvement
The email function in version 1.1 is cool, it makes the sharing of strategy a piece of cake. I just emailed a strategy to myself and then copy and paste it to optionspad.com. The developer is really serious in turning it into an even better application.
To my opinion, in version 1.0.3the inclusion of a crosshair magnifier was the most important and wonderful upgrade of this app so far, this new function makes the reading of the profit/loss value extremely easy, just tab on the screen for a second and I got the number, in old versions I had to expand the axis. For this improved version, I will give two thumbs up!
Some notes about how to use OptionsPad,
1. To add a new strategy, click "+" on the bottom, or you can click "++" to duplicate an existing strategy and then modify it.
2. Tab the strategy you want to edit, then a window with title "Strategy" on the up right corner will pop up, or you can activate and deactivate this window by tabbing the "Details" button on the up right corner. In this "Strategy" parameter window, you can put the parameters for the strategy, including the underlying stock symbol, comments in which you can write description of the strategy, interest rate, IV, and Deal Date.
Then you can add different legs by tabbing the "+" sign at the up right corner of the "Strategy" parameter window, after you finish adding a leg, simply tab "Done" to return the previous menu. Repeat this process until you have finished inputing all the legs. All the legs you have included will appear at the "Strategy" parameter window. When you want to remove one leg, simply tag the delete sign "-" in front of that leg.
3. Click "Done", finally you can view the Pay-off Diagram. You can view the pay-off diagram for a particular date by changing the date (you may need to tab the bottom of the diagram window to activate the calandar), you can change the view window. Just try it!
Finally, you can take a snapshot of the pay-off diagram by click the home button and power button simultaneously, then email the snapshot in the photo folder to other people.
The first option strategy that I built on July 8th was POT July 2010 85-90 bullish spread , and surely it is making money.
This option tool gives you an intuitive way to build either simple or complicated options combination. The building of option combo is simple, the display of how the option combo's price changes as a function of underlying stock price and the date is straightforward. It is very useful for me after I spend some time getting familiar with how to use it. I am looking forward to an updated version, personally I would be happy to see the following improvement
1, include a simple help file
2, possibly include an alternative way to plot the option combo return. I would be happy to have a 2-D color map showing the return as a function of stock price and date, on the map, different level of red showing different level of loss, different level of green showing different level of profit. Put the color code bar on the side, and when you tab on the map, the exact value of the return can be displayed. I would select the y axis of the color map to be the date, x axis to be the underlying stock price. When I tab a date on the y axis, the return as a function of the stock function for that date will be shown, when tabbing a stock price on the x axis, the return as a function of the date at that stock price will be plotted. Possibly it is simply my preference, but this is something that the developer can think about.
